Burundi is often referred to as “The Heart of Africa,” and from a coffee perspective we definitely believe this to be true. Burundian coffees are full of bold, unique flavors, while maintaining a subtle complexity that reveals the great care, pride, and effort for sustainability that coffee growers from this little landlocked country invest into their crops. The coffee is surprisingly bright and vibrant – like the Burundi culture itself. A great Burundi has defined fruits, a milk chocolaty body, and usually some earthy/grassy notes.
This year’s lot shows darker berries such as raspberry and black currant (rather than the citrus of former crops), and has a mild herbal quality that cuts through the milk chocolate finish. Experience “The Heart Of Africa” - experience Burundi.
